Where did sock go?

Into the void.

It left its brother behind,

An echo of where sock once was –

Mirrored in the remaining objects of this side of life,

Of this dimension,

Where refraction seems to go on into infinity –

And yet, where is sock?

Among these never-ending directions,

Among these ever-bending reflections,

Does sock not reside somewhere?

How could it not?

Has sock slipped through the crack between washer and dryer

And just kept slipping, sliding through cracks

Too small for my mind to fathom?

Will Grandpa find sock, wherever he is?

Will it keep one of his feet warm?

Do socks stay connected through quantum tangling,

Or am I really getting carried away with this thing?

And yet, it’s just so mysterious –

How did one sock go, and the other sock stay?

Something in it seems impossible,

Knowing how recently they hugged each other,

And did everything together.

Sock one is here – a ghost of his brother,

A reminder of the mysteries of life, death, and whatever else is out there.
