When I couldn’t speak, I thought a lot about words, what their purpose is, why we use them.  Did you know that without words you lose access to human society? There are no services available to you. Everything runs on words.  The following are a few of my thoughts about words from that time:

Words make us feel like we know things, but actually they create distance between us and what we know. If you close your eyes and feel your hands – you can try it, feel your hands. That is knowing. To describe it is not It anymore.

I also found it interesting how complete non-verbal communication can be, like with animals (or with human animals that are paying attention). At the same time, a difference between us and other animals is that nonverbal communication is not enough for a human. We need to speak to each other, to describe what’s inside. We can’t survive without it.  The isolation kills us. But for cats and dogs, wordless communication is all they need. That’s interesting.

I also thought about the nature of reality and how it is immune to our descriptions of it. Like damnation, no matter what we call things, or what we believe, the thing will be what it is. So, words are often a tool for denial, a way we try to control what we cannot.

I have lots more to say about words. I had a lot of time to think about it. But that’s all I’ll share for now.
